My dad's been drinking since the first fight they had when he met my mom. It was a funny story but eventually lead into a sad family history. I didn't feel my family had any problem with drinking in my childhood and I am happy for that, we've had enough other problems at the time. It grew into a problem and got worse in last couple years until we finally realized dad became addicted to alcohol. We all search for our own ways to deal with this although there has never been an honest conversation where all members of the family would sit together and discuss the issue. We don't talk about it with dad. We fight and scream about it in front of him but only discuss the matter in between the rest of us.
About a year ago I decided to step out of this bandwagon and stop turning in dad's stampedo of on&off drinking. I found help at psychiatrist, started writing this blog and most recently joined a local Al-Anon group. After six years of suffering and running away I finally feel stronger, looking forward to where my future will lead me.
It started as an anonymous blog out of fear to share my story in this small environment of our little country.
I continue to write anonymously out of respect for my family as they are still afraid to share their story.
